ABC announced the name of the first Golden Bachelorette four months before the spinoff premieres this fall. Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner has some words of wisdom to share with her. Keep reading to find out his advice.
First Look At Golden Bachelorette
ABC dropped its fall TV schedule and it had a few bombshells. The first season of The Golden Bachelorette will air on Wednesdays instead of the traditional Monday nights. Additionally, the episodes will be 90 minutes compared to The Golden Bachelor‘s one-hour episodes last fall.
But that’s not all. Hours after releasing the schedule, the network dropped something even bigger: the name of the first Golden Bachelorette.
Joan Vassos will get a second chance at finding love. The widow was a contestant on Gerry Turner’s season. Despite being a front-runner, she self-eliminated in Week 3 to be with her daughter, who had recently had a baby.
Despite leaving the show early, Joan Vassos has remained a prominent member of Bachelor Nation and recently appeared on the Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour podcast hosted by fellow contestants Susan Noles and Kathy Swarts.
The network teased Joan’s season with a promo featuring her in a gold dress with a gold rose. The network has yet to reveal an air date for the premiere, but The Golden Bachelorette is expected to premiere in September.

Gerry Turner Shares Advice
Gerry Turner knows what it is like to make history in the Bachelor Nation franchise. In early 2023, he was named as the first-ever Golden Bachelor. The spinoff of the popular reality TV dating franchise had a twist: both Gerry Turner and his contestants were aged 60 or older. In Gerry’s case, he was 71 when he filmed the show. Joan Vassos is 61.
He found love with Theresa Nist and married her in a televised ceremony on ABC in January 2024. But the relationship fizzled quickly and they announced plans to divorce just three months later. Despite his failure at finding lasting love on the reality TV show, he had words of wisdom to share with Joan Vassos.
“Dear Joan, Congratulations on being named the first ever Golden Bachelorette,” he shared on Instagram. His note continued, “You will be phenomenal as the new representative of a generation.”
He encouraged her to “relax, breathe and enjoy.”
Of all the Bachelor Nation alums to give advice, is Gerry Turner really the right person? He could certainly advise her on what NOT to do.
Fans Predict A Plot Twist
Gerry Turner’s comment section was full of reactions… mostly to the font and caps used in the note to Joan. But one Bachelor Nation fan predicted a plot twist that could only happen on reality TV: “Plot twist: Gerry becomes a contestant.”
He certainly wouldn’t the first one to join a second show in the franchise. And his connection to Joan was never given a fair chance to strengthen.
Given that Gerry Turner isn’t officially divorced yet, it seems unlikely that he will join the Golden Bachelorette as one of Joan’s suitors.
What do you think of his advice to her? Sound off in the comments.
