There is a new Terminator series coming to Netflix. However, this one is an anime unlike the live-action Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The series is called Terminator Zero, and it is going to hit Netflix on a very special date that will pay tribute to the original movies in the franchise.
Here is when Terminator Zero is coming to Netflix, and a look at the first trailer.
Terminator Zero Anime Release Date On Netflix
Terminator Zero is a new anime series coming to Netflix based on the Terminator franchise. The series takes place in two timelines: 2022 when the future war has raged for decades, and 1997 when Skynet gains self-awareness and begins its war.
Like the first movie in the series, a soldier is sent back in time to change humanity’s fate. Her name is Eiko (voiced by Sonoya Mizuno, House of the Dragon), and she has to find a scientist named Malcolm Lee (voiced by André Holland, The Knick) who plans to launch a new AI system (voiced by Rosario Dawson, Ahsoka) to battle Skynet’s upcoming attack.
At the same time, an assassin from the future arrives to try to stop Malcolm, which puts his kids’ lives in danger.
The new Terminator Zero anime will premiere on Netflix on August 29. This pays tribute to the past because Terminator 2: Judgment Day was released on August 29, 1991. The first season will have eight episodes for the first-ever animated Terminator series.
Terminator Zero Trailer
The Terminator Zero trailer has been released for the upcoming Netflix anime series. It all starts with a voiceover from resistance Fighter Eiko, who says, “This isn’t what you think it is. You can’t see it yet. But you’ve been on a collision course your entire life. There is no going back. Not really. It will never, never, stop.”
As the trailer shows, one big difference is moving the action (at least in this trailer) to Japan. It shows Eiko fighting to protect Malcolm while he works on Kokoro (the AI to fight Skynet). She fights a cyborg sent back from the future, making it a familiar story from the first movie, where John Connor sent Kyle Reese back in time to save Sarah Connor from The Terminator.
Timothy Olyphant (Justified) voices the cybernetic assassin Terminator sent back to kill Malcolm. Masashi Kudo (Bleach) directs the episodes. Mattson Tomlin (Mother/Android) is the showrunner. Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale) has signed on to voice The Prophet, the Resistance’s spiritual leader. According to Tomlin, the series will treat every one of the Terminator movies as canon.
