Current Events Are Always A Hot Topic
The View has been running since 1997. Since then, a number of co-hosts have sat at the table to discuss the show’s “hot topics” and various current events. The current line-up of hosts is made up of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin.
Politics and President Donald Trump have often been discussed on the show. Recently, one of the co-hosts had a few choice words concerning the commander-in-chief via social media.
On his Truth Social account, Trump had announced that the United States had carried out a “large-scale strike against Venezuela.” The country’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife have also been captured. At a conference later that day, he also declared, “We’re going to get the oil flowing the way it should be… We’re gonna run it properly.”
Ana Navarro Claimed That President Trump ‘Changed His Tune’
Recently, Ana Navarro, one of the current hosts of The View, issued a response to what the president said. Notably, Navarro was born in Nicaragua. In 1980, however, her family moved to the United States due to political turmoil, eventually attending school in Miami, Florida.
In a post on Instagram, Navarro noted that Trump has stopped his previous campaign of accusing Maduro’s regime of drug trafficking, instead focusing on oil. She shared, “All of a sudden, he’s changed his tune.”
“Instead of making it about drugs, he made it all about oil. He talked about sending U.S. companies in to fix the infrastructure and run the oil industry and pay themselves back, and then sell oil to foreign nations. He talked about running Venezuela, that he was gonna have Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio run Venezuela. Why?”
Navarro also took note of María Corina Machado’s party, which defeated Maduro in the 2024 election. She highlighted, “There is a legitimate government of Venezuela that needs to be put in power as soon as possible.”
Navarro continued, feeling that Venezuela wants to be a free country and not a United States protectorate. She continued, “After months of telling us that this was about drugs, today all he talked about was oil, oil, oil and running Venezuela.” She also called to reject the president’s efforts to “run” the South American country. Ultimately, she felt that the whole story was “insane.”
