“Whoever they are – they want something.” Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for a sci-fi thriller film titled The Abandon, set for a VOD release in July. This initially premiered back in 2022 at the Mammoth Film Festival and Panic Fest (here’s the early teaser), only getting a proper release now years later. It’s from the same filmmaker who made the two hit Star Wars fan films a few years back – Kenobi and The Force And The Fury. A wounded soldier suddenly awakens in a strange cube that tests his physical and mental limits as he attempts to find a way to escape against a ticking clock. He reaches another person on a phone, but cube room begins to change: fluctuating extreme temperatures, random shifts of gravity, and strange writing on the walls. Starring Jonathan Rosenthal, Tamara Perry, & Regis Terencio. Of course this is borrowing from the original Cube, but it also seems like it has a few of its own tricks up its sleeve. My initial guess is this is all in his head because he’s in a coma, but the poster seems like he’s actually out in space somewhere?

You can rewatch the early 2022 teaser for Satterlund’s The Abandon right here, for the first look again.
Injured U.S. soldier Miles Willis awakens after witnessing a blinding white light from a battlefield in Iraq to discover he is trapped in a mysterious cube armed only with his combat gear. His situation escalates as the cube begins to change with violent shifts in gravity and the appearance of cryptic writing on the walls. As Miles begins to question his sanity, he finds a lifeline – a voice on the other end of his satellite phone who claims to be a prisoner in a similar space. As the walls close in, these two strangers must put their heads together if they are to outwit their captors and unlock this deadly puzzle. The Abandon is directed by writer / filmmaker Jason Satterlund, director of the films The Human Trace, The Record Keeper (series + film), Kenobi: A Star Wars Fan Film, Star Wars: The Force And The Fury, and Legacy previously, plus the series “Studio 3:16”. The screenplay is written by Dwain Worrell. Produced by Regis Terencio, Victoria Hadeler. This initially premiered at the 2022 Mammoth Film Festival, and it also played at Panic Fest that year. Lionsgate will debut Satterlund’s The Abandon direct-to-VOD starting July 30th, 2024 this summer.
