“Music’s not worth dying for…” “Then what is?” Kino Lorber has debuted the official trailer for the indie music film titled Lost Soulz, opening in theaters this May to watch. It originally premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year, where it was second in line for Audience Award. It later went on to win AFI Grand Jury Prize and the SXSW Jury Award for Vision. Lost Soulz is the feature debut from award-winning filmmaker Katherine Propper. The film is a fictional feature (not a doc though it has that vibe) that follows aspiring rapper Sol as he joins a group of Gen-Z musicians on tour across the heart of Texas, embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip. Set to a lo-fi, genre-bending hip-hop soundtrack, Propper’s debut is suffused with a hazy & infectious energy and features virtuosic musical performances, from the tour van to the stage, that allow the ensemble’s chemistry to shine. Sauve Sidle stars as Sol, joined by Micro TDH, Krystall Poppin, Siyanda “Yung Bambi” Stillwell, Malachi Mabson, Aaron “Seven” Melloul, Tauran “Big 40 Thrax” Ambroise, and Alex Brackney. This actually looks good – similar to Gasoline Rainbow.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Katherine Propper’s film Lost Soulz, direct from YouTube:
When aspiring rapper Sol (starring newcomer Sauve Sidle) is discovered by a group of Gen-Z musicians after performing at a house party, he joins their tour through the heart of Texas and embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip. Sol and his new collaborators bond over their shared pains and longings from the lives they left behind. Bold and brash, yet surprisingly sensitive and vulnerable, these young artists pour their souls into the music they create together. The novelty of Sol’s newfound family fades as the demons Sol left behind come back to haunt him, including his guilt over abandoning his ailing friend. His sense of self is put to the ultimate test as he seeks refuge from the rootlessness and loss that has already defined his existence. Lost Soulz is written and directed by young indie filmmaker Katherine Propper, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Andrés Figueredo Thomson and Juan Carlos Figueredo. This initially premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year. Kino Lorber will debut Lost Soulz in select US theaters starting May 3rd, 2024. For details, visit the film’s official site.
