“I wish I could enjoy anything as much as my son enjoys everything.” Lionsgate has finally revealed the trailer for the movie titled The Unbreakable Boy, an adaptation of the book of the same name. From the same director as Ordinary Angels come an uplifting story about a young boy overcoming bullies and finding happiness every day. Intro from the book: “The Unbreakable Boy is the raucously tender story of the life of a teenage boy with a rare brittle-bone disease who joyfully embraces life’s tragedies and triumphs. Like any other teenage boy, Austin loves pizza, movies, dancing, and girls. But unlike most other 18-year-olds, he has a rare brittle-bone disease, was locked in a mental ward as a child, and is autistic. Yet Austin doesn’t let any of that stop him.” What makes him unique is his joyous, funny, life-affirming world view that transforms & unites everyone around him. Starring Zachary Levi and Meghann Fahy as his parents, along with Jacob Laval as Austin. This is set to open in February 2025 early next year right after Valentine’s Day. This film reminds me of Wonder, with a similar concept about a kid trying to make the best of his life no matter what.

From Kingdom Story Company, the team behind Jesus Revolution and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and Lionsgate, the studio behind Wonder, comes The Unbreakable Boy. When his parents, Scott (Zachary Levi) & Teresa (Meghann Fahy), learn that Austin is both autistic & has brittle bone disease, they initially worry for their son’s future. With Scott’s growing faith and with Austin’s incredible spirit, they become “unbreakable,” finding joy, gratitude, and courage even in the most trying times — an extraordinary true story about a father & son learning that every day can be the best day of your life! The Unbreakable Boy is directed by producer / filmmaker Jon Gunn (aka Jonathan M. Gunn), director of the faith-based films Mercy Streets, Like Dandelion Dust, Do You Believe?, The Week, The Case for Christ, and Ordinary Angels previously. The screenplay is also by Jon Gun; based on the book of the same name written by Scott LeRette and Susy Flory. Produced by Kevin Downes, Andrew Erwin, Jon Erwin, Jerilyn Esquibel, & Peter Facinelli. Lionsgate releases Gunn’s The Unbreakable Boy in theaters nationwide starting on February 21st, 2025.
