Woo! Kinnaman! Christmas! Lock ‘ load. Lionsgate has launched the first official trailer for Silent Night, a surprise John Woo action movie dropping in theaters this year. The legendary Chinese action filmmaker is back after his 2017 movie Manhunt with something fresh and fun. With virtually no dialogue throughout the entire film (hence the film’s title), Silent Night is, in a sense, a modern day silent film – mixing elements of A Quiet Place meets Peppermint meets Drive – into one insanely unexpected, immersive experience. Bring on the mayhem. A grieving father enacts his long-awaited revenge against a ruthless gang on Christmas Eve. Joel Kinnaman stars, joined by Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres, Yoko Hamamura, and Vinny O’Brien. Woo, one of the “masters of action”, showcases Kinnaman’s intensely emotional acting chops and deftly balances a gripping core family story, before diving into a whirlwind of guns-a-blazing fight scenes and Fast & Furious-style car chases. Not the only dialogue-free movie this year – No One Will Save You is on Hulu. Looks like it might be crazy good and vengefully satisfying! Check it out.

The nonstop, action-packed thrill ride stars Joel Kinnaman in a revolutionary piece of filmmaking from legendary director John Woo. The gritty revenge tale follows a tormented father, Godlock (Kinnaman), who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death. Full of Woo’s signature style, Silent Night redefines the action genre with visceral, thrill-a-minute storytelling. Silent Night is directed by the legendary action Chinese filmmaker John Woo, of many films including A Better Tomorrow, Just Heroes, The Killer, Bullet in the Head, Hard Boiled, Hard Target, Broken Arrow, Face/Off, Mission: Impossible 2, Windtalkers, Paycheck, Red Cliff, Reign of Assassins, The Crossing, and Manhunt previously. The screenplay is written by Robert Archer Lynn. Produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christian Mercuri, Lori Tilkin, & John Woo. Lionsgate will debut Woo’s Silent Night in theaters starting on December 1st, 2023 this fall. Who’s down?
