“To live out there [on the remote island] with even a moderate amount of modern convenience would be a monumental undertaking.” VMI International has revealed the first official trailer for an indie comedy film called Waltzing with Brando, a sort of biopic about iconic American actor Marlon Brando. There’s no release date or any other info yet – this is expected to arrive sometime in 2025 next year. Movie star Marlon Brando recruits a Los Angeles architect to build the world’s first ecologically perfect retreat on his own small, uninhabited island in Tahiti. Billy Zane stars as Brando in this wacky look at his life. Based on the book written by the architect who actually did all of this for Brando. The book tells stories about Brando and is also about Tetiaroa, “Brando’s private atoll, [wondering] about living in nature without despoiling the environment. Questions are asked. Should a hotel be built? What are the consequences?” The film also stars Jon Heder, Richard Dreyfuss, Tia Carrere, Abel Lysenko, and Alaina Huffman. It looks like it’s a bit too kooky and eccentric to really work well. I get it, this is a crazy idea, but nah. Not a great trailer either.
Here’s the first official trailer for Bill Fishman’s film Waltzing with Brando, direct from YouTube:
Intro via the book: “Waltzing with Brando is the story of a young Los Angeles architect who found himself, quite unexpectedly, living on an unpopulated atoll in the South Pacific with his client, Marlon Brando. Bernard Judge recounts his life changing experience while discovering the culture of Polynesia and Tahiti in the early 70’s, before mass tourism, electrification and the automobile changed everything… It exposes Marlon Brando the man, not the actor, his foibles and eccentricities and regales the reader with Brando’s ridiculous exploits with women.” Waltzing with Brando is directed by filmmaker Bill Fishman, known as a director of many music videos over decades, and also the doc Hollywood Signs previously. The screenplay is also by Bill Fishman, adapted from the book of the same name written by Bernard Judge. Produced by Dean Bloxom, Doug Dearth, Brett Kerr, Billy Zane, and Bill Fishman. VMI Worldwide is handling the rights of the film worldwide – no premiere or release date has been set yet. Stay tuned for updates. Want to watch?
