All eyes might be on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ to not only help Marvel’s theatrical fortunes but also keep the recent box office upswing motoring, but the company doesn’t want you to forget that other movies are on the way.
Prime among them is ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, which sees Anthony Mackie, the new Cap, finally get his chance to soar with the mantle on the big screen.
The first teaser for the new Cap is online, and it certainly makes it look like a conspiracy thriller/action movie from the 1990s with MCU trappings. And that’s only increased by the presence of Harrison Ford, who takes over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from the late William Hurt (the trailer includes a nod to Ross’ new look).
Even if most 1990s conspiracy thrillers didn’t feature one of the characters turning into a roaring, giant Red Hulk.
What’s the story of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’?
After meeting with newly elected President Thaddeus Ross, Sam Wilson finds himself in the middle of an international incident.
He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
Who is appearing in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’?
Alongside Mackie and Ford, we can expect Liv Tyler (as Betty Ross from ‘The Incredible Hulk’), Tim Blake Nelson (as villain Samuel Sterns/The Leader also from the MCU Hulk movie), Danny Ramirez (as ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Joaquin Torres, who is the new Falcon), Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, the former super soldier we met in ‘Falcon’ and here appears to be under some form of mind control) and Rosa Salazar in an unknown role.
And, as shown a few times in this new teaser, Giancarlo Esposito, who has been at pains to stoke up interest in his mysterious role. He certainly appears to be an antagonist, but we won’t know for sure until the movie itself arrives.

What has happened with ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ so far?
Directed by Julius Onah, the movie had its original shoot in early 2023, and after test screenings is now headed for some extensive (though not as much as, say, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ or ‘The Marvels’) addition footage work, with ‘Moon Knight’s Matthew Orton having cranked out on new script material, which presumably includes Esposito’s character.
There has been much chatter about the movie being in trouble, but extra footage filming is built in to Marvel movie schedules.
Still, there is pressure on the company to get its hit ratio back up after the likes of ‘The Marvels’ didn’t score well at the box office, and it has been having trouble getting other projects, including ‘Blade’ off the ground.
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ itself has shifted release dates at least once already, from its original slot, which was inherited by Deadpool’s latest outing on July 26th.
When will ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ be in theaters?
Disney and Marvel have set a February 14th, 2025, release date for ‘Brave New World’. Because after all, what date night isn’t complete without thwarting a global conspiracy? And doesn’t Red Hulk just scream “romance”?
