“I just want the house… I built it.” Searchlight Pictures has unveieled the first official trailer for relationship comedy The Roses, the latest comedy from filmmaker Jay Roach (known for Meet the Parents & Fockers, the Austin Powers movies, Dinner for Schmucks, The Campaign, Trumbo, etc). Searchlight has this set for release at the end of August at the end of the summer coming up in a few more months. “All’s fair when love is war.” A tinderbox of competition and resentments hidden underneath the façade of a picture-perfect couple is ignited when the husband’s professional dreams come crashing down and his (ex-)wife’s career takes off. An updated take on the book “The War of the Roses” written by Warren Adler, which was already adapted before into 1989 comedy of the same name. The Roses stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman, Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon. This trailer starts out all nice and peaceful, erupting into all-out divorce chaos by the end. Should be fun to watch! As long as you’re not in the midst of a divorce, too.
Here’s the first official trailer for Jay Roach’s new comedy The Roses, direct from Searchlight’s YouTube:
