“People don’t really see me. Like, not at all, actually.” Sky TV has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a dark comedy series called Sweetpea, arriving for streaming in the UK and US this fall. “The girl everyone overlooks might just be able to get away with murder.” This series is based on the book of the same name written by CJ Skuse, the first in a series of books about a sweet young woman who starts killing people. The TV series is described as “a deviously twisted coming-of-‘rage’ story.” Ella Purnell (from Yellowjackets, Sweetbitter, and the recent Fallout series) who also serves as executive producer, stars as Rhiannon, a quiet wallflower who develops a vengeful and intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder. The series cast includes Nicôle Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch, Leah Harvey, Jeremy Swift, Dustin Demri-Burns, and Luke McGibney. Only 30 seconds of footage in here so far, not much beyond a quick intro to Purnell’s character. But it’s enough of a tease to get the attention of most people – stay tuned for the full trailer soon.
Here’s the first look teaser trailer for Sky TV’s series Sweetpea, direct from Sky’s YouTube:
Rhiannon Lewis (Purnell) doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance. She’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really, really sick. Then everything in her life turns upside down. Rhiannon is pushed over the edge and loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret? Sweetpea is a series created by English writer Kirstie Swain, also a writer on the TV series “EastEnders”, “Holby City”, “Pure”, and “Run” previously. Adapted from the book of the same name written by CJ Skuse. With writing by Kirstie Swain, Krissie Ducker, Laura Jayne Tunbridge, & Selina Lim. And with episodes directed by Ella Jones (director many shorts + episodes of “Back to Life” and “The Baby“). Made by See-Saw Films and Sky Studios. Executive produced by Patrick Walters, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Ella Jones, Kirstie Swain, Ella Purnell, Manpreet Dosanjh. Sky will debut Sweetpea streaming on Sky and NOW in the UK, as well as Starz in the US, starting in October this fall. Who wants to watch this?
