“You were the only person I felt myself around.” Greenwich Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled Close To You, which originally premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year to many glowing reviews. It’s set for a limited theatrical release in US art house theaters starting in August near the end of this summer. Oscar nominee Elliot Page stars as a trans man who returns to his hometown for the first time in years. It’s produced and co-written by Page as well, as his very personal cinema project. On his journey home, he confronts his relationship with his family, reunites with a first love, and also discovers a newfound confidence in himself. TIFF describes the film as “an emotionally observant drama about coming home as yourself, only for everyone to treat you like a completely different person.” Also starring Hillary Baack, Wendy Crewson, Peter Outerbridge, Janet Porter, Alex Paxton-Beesley, and Sook-Yin Lee. It looks like a powerfully emotional film where complete authenticity from Page shines above all else.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Dominic Savage’s film Close to You, direct from YouTube:
From TIFF: “Sam (Page) hasn’t been home since his transition, and after four years in Toronto, he takes a long-dreaded trip back to Cobourg for his father’s birthday. On the train there, he runs into Katherine (Baack), a friend from high school with her own complicated life now, and feelings from their unresolved past begin to bubble to the surface. It’s a serendipitous encounter, as Sam worries about seeing his family after so much time apart — not for fear that they’ll reject him, but because of the unsolicited comments and questions he’ll receive about his transition, placing the weight of his family’s ignorance and discomfort squarely on his shoulders.” Close to You is directed by the English writer / filmmaker Dominic Savage, of the films Love + Hate and The Escape previously, plus TV work including “True Love”, “The Secrets”, and “I Am…” The screenplay is written by Dominic Savage, from a story by Savage & Page. It’s produced by Daniel Bekerman, Krishnendu Majumdar, Dominic Savage, Richard Yee, Chris Yurkovich, Elliot Page. Greenwich Ent. will debut Close to You in select US theaters starting August 16th, 2024 this summer. Worth a look?
