“What I’m really drawn to in this film is theme of: revenger becoming an avenger.” Let’s rock!! Universal has debuted a promo featurette for Monkey Man, the badass action movie from Dev Patel. It’s directed by Patel, and produced by Jordan Peele and his company Monkeypaw. The first trailer dropped in earlier in the year, it just premiered at the SXSW Film Festival to rave reviews, and hits theaters worldwide in April. Acclaimed British actor Dev Patel achieves an astonishing, tour-de-force feature directing debut with an action thriller about one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who killed his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor & powerless. Packed with thrilling & spectacular fight and chase scenes, Monkey Man is inspired by the legend of Hanuman. The cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Makarand Deshpande, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher. This featurette includes Jordan Peele talking about how much this movie blew him away and how watching it in theaters kicks ass. Cannot wait for it! So excited! The hype is through the roof now.

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him. Monkey Man is directed by the British-Indian actor / filmmaker Dev Patel, making his feature directorial debut after a few other shorts previously. The screenplay is written by Paul Angunawela, John Collee, and Dev Patel. Produced by Patel, Jomon Thomas, Oscar winner Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal. Universal debuts Monkey Man in theaters nationwide starting April 5th, 2024 this spring.
