“Could you do a spiritual cleansing on me?” “I can’t help you.” An official trailer is out for a Mexican indie horror film titled Disappear Completely, the latest film from filmmaker Luis Javier Henaine (of Happy Times and Ready to Mingle). It premiered in 2022 at Fantastic Fest as a work-in-progress, and screened at the Morelia Film Festival, and it won a Bronze Skull at the Morbido Film Festival in Mexico. There’s still no US release date set, but with an opening in Mexico this March there’s a trailer to check out. After visiting a brutal crime scene, an ambitious and insensitive tabloid crime photographer falls victim to a mysterious illness that makes him lose, one by one, his five senses. He attempts to figure out what is going on and how stop this illness “before the world he knows disappears completely…” Starring Harold Torres as Santiago, with Tete Espinoza, Fermín Martínez, Vicky Araico, and Norma Reyna. Yeah htis looks really good, with some great cinematography and freaky atmosphere. A few “holy sh*t!” shots at the end – worth a look.
Here’s the first official trailer for Luis Javier Henaine’s Disappear Completely, from YouTube (via SA):
“‘Desaparecer por Completo’ is my third feature film, switching from comedy to explore new territory with a Supernatural Thriller that delves into two very important aspects of Mexican Culture – Nota Roja (Tabloid Crime Journalism) and Brujeria (Witchcraft) – both of which are a reflection of my country by way of our superstitions and the lack of sensitivity that we’ve become used to in our daily lives. Though ultimately, the film is a very intimate and personal drama about a photographer with artistic ambitions, who struggles to find balance between his career and his marriage, while taking ‘life’ for granted.” –Director Luis Javier Henaine
Santiago Mendoza is the best tabloid crime photographer in Mexico City, but his profession has made him insensitive and incapable of affection towards his wife Marcela. One night, Santiago hears an emergency call and despite the police’s warnings, he infiltrates a disturbing crime scene. Soon after, he begins to suffer a mysterious illness that makes him lose, one by one, his five senses. Without knowing what’s wrong with him or why, Santiago must find a solution to this affliction, before the world he knows disappears completely. Disappear Completely, also known as Desaparecer Por Completo in Spanish, is directed by the Mexican indie filmmaker Luis Javier M. Henaine, director of the two films Happy Times and Ready to Mingle previously, plus a few other short films. The screenplay is written by Ricardo Aguado-Fentanes and Luis Javier Henaine. Produced by Pablo Zimbrón Alva, Gerardo Gatica, and Henaine. This first premiered at Fantastic Fest 2022 a few years ago, with a stop at the Morbido Film Fest. The film is already set for release in Mexico this March, but still has no US release date confirmed yet. First impression? Anyone interested?
