“I’m having moments where I can’t tell if I’m awake or asleep.” BritFlicks has revealed an official trailer for an indie mystery thriller from the UK called Midnight Taxi, following a Black Cab driver around London. It’s set for a VOD release later in July this summer if anyone is interested. In Midnight Taxi, Eddie Carter, a sleepwalking cab driver, must navigate London’s seedy underworld to solve a murder and determine his own innocence. Directed by filmmakers Bertie & Samantha Speirs and featuring Ladi Emeruwa as Eddie, Charlotte Price, and Eddie Eyre, this gripping thriller takes viewers on a nocturnal journey through a city’s hidden darkness. “Don’t miss this suspenseful tale of mystery and self-discovery,” they say. Might be entertaining? This doesn’t look like it’s the best taxi cab thriller out there, but it does have an intriguing plot about a seemingly innocent cabbie losing his mind as he gets more and more exhausted. Driving a Black Cab night after night is a quiet and simple life for Eddie Carter (Ladi Emeruwa), but when Eddie’s daytime sleep schedule is disturbed by construction work next door, he finds his nighttime shifts requiring more coffee and exhaustion setting in. After pulling over for a break one night, he awakens to a terrifying situation: ahead of his cab is the body of a murdered woman. After this gruesome discovery, he tries to move on by the sight and his tiredness haunts him. The following night he awakens from a dream of the murder scene to find that he has started sleepwalking again, a condition he suffered from as a child. Panic creeps in as he realises that there is a chance he may have been involved in the woman’s murder. Midnight Taxi is written & directed & produced by filmmakers Bertie Speirs & Samantha Speirs, both making their feature directorial debut with this film. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as I know. BritFlicks will release Midnight Taxi direct-to-VOD in the US starting on July 23rd, 2024.
