“I’m not trying to stop the clock. No one can stop the clock…” The Film Stage has revealed an official trailer for an intriguing film titled Marianne, a special one-woman film made by Italian journalist Michael Rozek. This initially premiered last year at the 2023 Torino Film Festival but hasn’t shown up anywhere else. Since it hasn’t been released anywhere yet, they’re hosting an online screening in July. Isabelle Huppert stars in her first one-character film, described as a spectacular showcase for one of the greatest actresses in cinema. “Out of the blue, an electrifying, form-smashing tour de force, capturing (for those with ears to hear) our current moment.” What is she doing? Talking the whole time? Rozek adds: “Marianne is a true event. It’s not only Huppert’s first one-character project – a complete tour de force for one of the greatest actresses in the history of film – but also, in its breakthrough form, a zeitgeist movie, meant to exactly capture the moment we are all living in.” Huh… It looks like a fascinating, introspective sit-down session with Huppert.
Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Michael Rozek’s Marianne, direct from YouTube (via TFS):
Intro from Torino: “The only character on stage, Marianne (played by a radiant Isabelle Huppert) confesses herself in a long river monologue, addressing the viewer directly. She talks about cinema, under the tutelary deity Tarkovsky, love, life, feeling and death. A directorial and acting tour de force, between cinema and theater, intimism and experimentation, physical spaces and places of the soul.” Marianne is both written and directed by Italian journalist turned filmmaker Michael Rozek, making his feature directorial debut with this unique film project. It’s produced by Philippe Carcassonne, James Ireland, Alex Pettyfer, & Ashok Amritraj. This initially premiered at the 2023 Torino Film Festival in Italy last year. Rozek + The Film Stage will host a special streaming event online in the US – on July 16th, 2024 the film will stream online with a Q&A after. For more info + tickets head to this Eventive page.
