“All I’ve seen on my journey is a river of blood.” Central Partnership has revealed an official trailer for a big post-apocalyptic western thriller called The Last Ronin, a Russian project by filmmaker Maksim Shishkin making his feature directorial debut. The film is premiering soon and will be released in Russia at the end of December. The craziest thing about this is that it’s a blatant rip-off of both The Last of Us and Mad Max, combined into one gnarly VFX-heavy action movie that looks pretty terrible. Haunted by the ghosts of the past, lone traveler Ronin wanders the postapocalyptic wastelands in search of his father’s killer. Everywhere he goes, he encounters blood-thirsty head hunters and rogue gangs. One day the Ronin meets a wayward teenage girl named Maria (or Mariya) who offers him a precious bounty for escorting her to her birthplace. Starring Yuri Kolokolnikov and Diana Enakaeva, with Daniil Vorobyov, Tikhon Zhiznevskiy, and Aleksandr Mizev. This has nice visuals, but only because they’re straight up aping everything from these other properties and just making it look the same – with swords and robo-dogs added in. Doubt it’ll be any good but you never know. This trailer is dubbed into English for everyone to watch though it’s all so cringe.
Here’s the two official trailers (+ poster) for Maksim Shishkin’s movie The Last Ronin, from YouTube:
Original synopsis: (Not) distant future. As a result of climate change, which led to a global nuclear war, civilization is practically destroyed: lands are scorched, cities are destroyed. The equipment does not work; gasoline has long lost its properties. The main currency in this world is two cartridges: 9mm and 7.62 from the AK-47. Haunted by the ghosts of the past, lone traveler Ronin wanders the postapocalyptic wastelands in search of his father’s killer. Over the years, he has been creating a map of the lawless world inhabited by tough survivors. Everywhere he goes, he encounters blood-thirsty head hunters and rogue gangs. One day Ronin meets a wayward teenage girl named Maria who offers him a precious bounty for escorting her to her birthplace. The Last Ronin, also known as Последний ронин in Russian, is written and directed by the Russian filmmaker Maksim Shishkin, making his feature directorial debut after one other short previously. Produced by Natalya Shibanova. The action movie opens in Russian cinemas first at the end of December. No other release dates are set yet – expected in early 2025 in the US. Is anyone into this?
