“I want to venture out, take risks.” Greenwich Entertainment has also revealed an official trailer for Your Friend, Memphis, a documentary film from filmmaker David Zucker about his friend Memphis. It first premiered at the last year’s SXSW Film Festival and will be out on VOD this fall. Shot over five years, the film is “an intimate portrait of Memphis’ dogged determination: to bridge the distance between the world’s expectations and his own aspirations.” An invigorating look that makes you rethink what it means to really live. Memphis, a young man with cerebral palsy, is caught between the world’s expectations and his own ambitions. His story is an odyssey of tenacity: a search for work, love, and freedom – no matter what. This sounds wonderfully inspiring! A struggle to find yourself and define yourself without limitations, whatever it takes. This a riveting, unconventional trailer that will hopefully get the attention of a few interested viewers.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for David Zucker’s doc Your Friend, Memphis, direct from YouTube:
Via SXSW: “Memphis is wild at heart. He lives on the edge, pursuing his dreams with grit. But as a young man with cerebral palsy, living without government support, Memphis feels stuck. Saddled with their own baggage, Memphis’ parents waver between supporting his desire for independence and also pushing him towards a more pragmatic reality. Seneca, his best friend, struggles to reconcile her own big ambitions with her small town life – and her relationship with Memphis.” Your Friend, Memphis is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker David Zucker (aka David P. Zucker), making his feature after a few other short films, plus work as a cinematographer / writer. Produced by Ben Edelman and Luke Terrell, co-produced by Robert Kanter. This initally premiered at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival last year. Greenwich Ent. will debut Your Friend, Memphis direct-to-VOD / digital in the US starting October 6th, 2023 this fall. Look good?
