“This may be their last… Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point. So it’s time to make this one count.” IFC Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie ensemble comedy non-narrative film called Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, a sort of vintage, nostalgic trip back in time to an awkward Christmas Eve. This premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival back in May, and opens in US theaters starting in November this fall. On Christmas Eve, a rambunctious extended family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teens sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own. The cast includes Michael Cera, Elsie Fisher, Maria Dizzia, Gregg Turkington, Matilda Fleming, Lev Cameron, Ben Shenkman, and Sawyer Spielberg. Yes it has a cast of famous youngsters, who are all just having a fun time on set. This film is a scattershot collection of vignettes and awkward moments that don’t really amount to much – I didn’t care for it at all when I saw it in Cannes. But it might connect more with some cinephiles. Take a look.
Here’s the official trailer for Tyler Taormina’s film Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, from YouTube:
An iridescent Christmas bauble, at once comforting and melancholic: for his third feature, Tyler Taormina films a Christmas’s Eve get-together for the members of an eccentric Italian-American family. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out of the house with her friend to claim the wintry suburb for her own. Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point is directed by American filmmaker Tyler Taormina (also a part of the Omnes Films collective), director of the indie films Ham on Rye and Happer’s Comet previously, plus a few other short films. The screenplay is written by Tyler Taormina & Eric Berger. It’s produced by Krista Minto, David Croley Broyles, Duncan Sullivan, Michael Cera. This initially premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des Cinéastes) sidebar, and it also played at the Deauville American Film Festival. IFC Films will debut Taormina’s Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point film in select US theaters starting November 8th, 2024 coming soon this fall. Intrigued?
