“Is he somebody I can trust?” Disney+ in Korea and Hulu in the US (and Star elsewhere around the world) have just premiered another sneaky sci-fi series from Korea titled Blood Free. The original Korean title is actually Dominant Species, but had to drop that for the English title. A former bodyguard is recruited to protect the CEO of a lab-grown meat company who’s also a survivor of an attack that changed his own life. Humans have consumed animal meat for millions of years. BF, a bio-technology company that started the era of artificially cultured meat, dominates the market, and people who doubt the BF CEO’s actions begin to appear one after another, both inside & outside. The series tells of a world of superior genes & viruses where all food is consumed in the form of a pill. Following those who harbor suspicions on the whereabouts of the CEO of BF, who recently hired a new bodyguard. Starring Ju Ji-hoon, Han Hyo-joo, Lee Hee-joon, Lee Moo-saeng, Park Ji-yeon, Kim Sang-ho, Yi Seo, & Eom Hyo-seop. The series just started streaming worldwide last week and is available to watch now, with new episodes every week. Check out some footage.
Here’s the main official trailer (+ poster) for Disney+’s series Blood Free, direct from Hulu’s YouTube:
It’s the year 2025. Instead of killing animals for their meat, a biotechnology company called “BF” uses its technology to provide the world with artificially cultivated meat. Yun Jayu (Han Hyo-joo) has successfully transformed BF into a global company which makes her a target for death threats and harassment. As a result, the company hires Woo Chaewoon (Ju Ji-hoon), a former commissioned officer, to protect her. But Chaewoon suspiciously does everything she needs with perfect timing. Could he truly be just a bodyguard or something else? Blood Free, also known as Jibaejong or 지배종 in Korean (meaning Dominant Species), is a series created and written by Korean writer Lee Soo-yeon (also of the City of Mysteries series coming up). With episodes directed by Korean filmmaker Park Chul-hwan (also of the Grid series previously). Produced by Korea’s Ace Factory and H& Entertainment. Blood Free has already debuted on Disney+ / Hulu starting on April 10th, 2024 this spring. It’s now available to watch online worldwide. Anyone interested?
