“We’ve wanted to live as normal a life as possible.” Sky Cinemas has revealed their official trailer for a dark comedy called The Radleys, arriving in UK cinemas this fall. We missed this trailer when it first appeared but happy to catch up with it. The film just premiered at the 2024 Edinburgh Film Festival last week, though it still has no US date set. It’s the story of a seemingly ordinary family with a dark secret: they are vampires. However, they’re abstaining vampires. They choose not to drink blood despite their own natural cravings, but their truth is revealed one day. The shocking revelation encourages lovesick son Rowan and previously vegan Clara to question their own identity and suppressed desires. Peter’s twin brother Will arrives (played by Damian Lewis in a dual role as both). A proud, practicing vampire who openly embraces his hedonistic, bloodthirsty lifestyle, Will forces the family to face their repressed urges even more intensely. Can the family continue to hold back their hidden bloodlust, or will they give in to their true nature? Lewis stars with Kelly Macdonald, Shaun Parkes, Harry Baxendale, Bo Bragason, & Sophia Di Martino. The film seems very similar to the Quebecois vamp comedy Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person as well.
Here’s the official UK trailer for Euros Lyn’s film The Radleys, direct from Sky’s YouTube:
“Your darkest desires will consume you.” The Radleys are just an ordinary family who hold a dark secret… they are abstaining vampires. As if being a teenager wasn’t bad enough, bloodthirsty instincts take over the teens of the family revealing the terrifying truth and opening the door for an extended family member to re-enter and upend The Radleys’ once perfect slice of suburbia life. The Radleys is a British dark comedy directed by Welsh filmmaker Euros Lyn, director of the films Diwrnod Hollol Mindblowing Heddiw, The Library Suicides, and Dream Horse previously, as well as lots of TV work over the years including episodes of “Doctor Who”. The screenplay is written by Talitha Stevenson, and developed by Jo Brand. Adapted from the novel of the same name written by Matt Haig. Produced by Debbie Gray. This just premiered at the 2024 Edinburgh Film Festival earlier this month. Sky Cinema debuts The Radleys comedy in UK cinemas starting October 18th, 2024 before streaming this fall. No US release is set yet – stay tuned. Who wants to watch?
