“Watch out, this is the big league.” Kino Lorber has debuted the US trailer for La Syndicaliste, a French dramatic thriller based on a true story about a whistleblower. This first premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival last year, playing at many other fests along the way. This is the story of Maureen Kearney, played by Isabelle Huppert, the head union representative of a French multinational nuclear powerhouse. She became a whistle-blower, denouncing top-secret deals that shook the French nuclear sector. Alone against the world, she fought government ministers and industry leaders, tooth and nail to bring the scandal to light and to defend more than 50,000 jobs… Her life was turned upside down when she was violently assaulted in her own home… The investigation is carried out under pressure. However, new elements create doubt in the minds of the investigators. At first a victim, Maureen becomes a suspect. The cast also includes Grégory Gadebois, François-Xavier Demaison, Pierre Deladonchamps, Alexandra Maria Lara, Gilles Cohen, and Aloïse Sauvage. An intricate, complex French thriller about how hard it is to reveal the truth.
Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Jean-Paul Salomé’s La Syndicaliste, direct from YouTube:
An investigative thriller set in the world of nuclear power and corrupt politics, the film follows the true story of Maureen Kearney (Huppert), the influential head union representative of a French multinational nuclear powerhouse. A deft navigator of elite political & financial circles, she becomes a whistleblower when she discovers international backroom dealings, exposing major secrets that shook the French nuclear sector. Fighting against government ministers & industry leaders, Maureen worked tirelessly to bring the scandal to light and defend thousands of jobs until she was violently sexually assaulted in her own home, seemingly targeted for attempting to reveal the truth. As her attack is investigated, new details create doubt in the minds of detectives & lawyers, and they begin to see Maureen not as a victim, but as a suspect. Surrounded by powerful enemies, unable to trust anyone, Maureen must fight to clear her name.
La Syndicaliste is directed by French filmmaker Jean-Paul Salomé, director of the films Girls with Guns, Belphegor: Phantom of the Louvre, Arsène Lupin, Female Agents, The Chameleon, Playing Dead, and Mama Weed previously.
