SAG Awards 2024 Winners: The ‘Oppenheimer’ Cast + Lily Gladstone
by Alex Billington
February 25, 2024
“Keep telling stories to everybody in this room, to everybody watching abroad. Those of you who are not actors but have a voice, have a story that needs to be heard.” –Lily Gladstone. As we move closer to the Academy Awards (they’re on March 10th), the next important set of winners have been revealed. The 30th annual SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild Awards) honor the finest performances from 2023, as chosen by other actors which means this is one of the most definitive lists of the very best. All of the nominees, too. Actors know their profession better than anyone and are very particular about good performances. What did they decide should win this year? Big news – Oppenheimer won the most awards, taking home Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Ensemble. This means it is probably going to win Best Picture and tons of Oscars next (same as Everything Everywhere All at Once last year). Lily Gladstone also won, over Emma Stone for Best Female Actor, along with the wonderful Da’Vine Joy Randolph from The Holdovers. Read on for the full list of winners from 2023 + be sure to watch any / all of the nominated films included below.

The full ceremony was broadcast live on Netflix this year, same as last year – here are a few of the speeches:
Congrats to all of this year’s SAG winners and nominees! I’m especially happy for Da’Vine Joy Randolph winning, I’ve been rooting her ever since I watched The Holdovers months ago. I also love Oppenheimer and I’m happy it’s winning so many awards (both Cillian and RDJ deserve it) and this is a good sign the rest of the industry loves it, too. I never thought I’d see the day when a Christopher Nolan movie goes on to win so many awards! But I’m glad it’s finally Nolan’s time. I would also be satisfied with Paul Giamatti winning for Best Actor, he’s the next best performance of 2023 after Murphy. Though he’ll have another shot down the line, I’m sure, as he’s always good. I still would prefer Emma Stone winning over Lily Gladstone, but as long as it’s between these two I’m happy. Just glad it’s not Nyad! Not a bad film, but not a great one either, and I think all these acting nominations are ignoring that the rest of the film is pretty forgettable. I love the final note in Randolph’s speech: “For every actor out there still waiting in the wings for their chance, let me tell you, your life can change in a day, and it is not a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’ – keep going.” The Ensemble Cast winner almost always goes on to win Best Picture at the Oscars – so does this mean Oppenheimer will be taking it home? It’s likely. We’ll find out soon enough. Stay tuned for more awards leading to the Oscars.
