See Some Terrific Films at Berlin’s Around the World in 14 Films Fest

Berlin’s best film festival returns soon. They’ve got a batch of many of the finest films you’ll catch all year, playing at cozy venues located around the city, and affordable tickets for everyone. The 2024 Around the World in 14 Films Festival begins in Germany’s capitol city on Friday and runs through next week. The selection this year features 28 of the year’s best festival films from, ahem, around the world, screening in Berlin for everyone to enjoy – this fest meant for the public, for anyone to come and discover great cinema. Tickets are only 12€ each (more info here), playing at three nice and warm movie theaters, with a few Q&As and other special events to participate in. I still hear from people who read my passionate article about how much I adore this festival, and we’re all happy that it continues every year. There’s plenty of gems to watch in the 2024 line-up – from The Seed of the Sacred Fig to All We Imagine as Light to Dog on Trial and more.
What do I suggest watching? If you live in Berlin or you’re in the area from November 29th until December 7th, I absolutely encourage you to catch a few screenings – whatever catches your eye. The impressive 2024 line-up includes: two of the best doggie movies of 2024 including Guan Hu’s Black Dog (my review) and Laetitia Dosch’s comedy Dog on Trial (my review). Mohammad Rasoulof’s instantly iconic The Seed of the Sacred Fig (watch the trailer) is already winning awards around the world and finally has a chance to shine in Berlin. Payal Kapadia’s acclaimed feature debut All We Imagine as Light and Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel’s feature debut Armand. One of my other favorites is Luis Ortega’s Kill the Jockey (my review) from the Venice Film Festival a few months ago. They’re also showing Andrea Arnold’s latest film Bird and Luca Guadagnino’s latest film Queer. Two of the most underrated indie gems playing at festivals this year are also in: Iranian filmmaker Shahab Fotouhi’s Boomerang and Vietnamese filmmaker Truong Minh Quy’s Viet and Nam. There’s also a set of other films getting rave reviews from critics that premiered at other festivals: Grand Tour, Transamazonia, Caught by the Tides, and Misericordia. Sound good?
For more info on screenings, tickets, and more – visit their official website at 14films.de or follow them on IG @aroundtheworldin14films or on Facebook. I’m happy to bring attention to this charming little festival in Berlin because it really is one of the best places to watch all of these exceptional films. While there are a few other 2024 gems I’d like to see at the fest this year (e.g. The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Under the Volcano, Happyend) this year’s line-up is pretty stellar anyway. And there’s always something to watch and discover even if you’ve never heard of it before – which is part of the magic of a great film festival like this one. Most films are shown with English subtitles in the original format. Anyone can go! Tickets are available at fair prices for the general public. I will be catching a few films next week, just for my own enjoyment. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to view some of the best new movies in 2024 with enthusiastic cinephile audiences.
