“It doesn’t matter the bridges that you burn to get there… Do what has to be done.” Vertical has unveiled an official trailer for a thriller titled Cold Copy, arriving at the end of January to watch. This one originally premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and also at the Deauville American Film Festival. An ambitious journalism student falls under the compelling thrall of an esteemed yet cutthroat news reporter whom she’s desperate to impress, even if it means manipulating her latest story… and the very idea of truth itself. This journalism thriller stars Tracee Ellis Ross, Bel Powley, and Jacob Tremblay as the kid she tries to profile, along with James Tupper, Nesta Cooper, Ekaterina Baker, and more. The film’s writer / director Roxine Helberg stated: “In making my first feature, I set out to explore the personal cost of the manipulation of truth.” This doesn’t look so bad, an engaging cast telling an intriguing story – worth a look.

Cold Copy tells the story of two driven women pushing the boundaries of journalistic integrity in order to deliver a compelling, and ultimately scandalous, exposé. Eager to impress the the cutthroat news reporter Diane Heger (Tracee Ellis Ross), ambitious young journalism student Mia Scott (Bel Powley) desperately competes for her attention. With increasing pressure from Diane to outperform her peers, Mia finds a new angle for her latest story about an unsuspecting subject: precocious teen Igor Nowak (Jacbo Tremblay). But her new approach involves manipulating his story — and the truth itself. Cold Copy is both written and directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Roxine Helberg, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Daniel Bekerman, Roxine Helberg, Justin Lothrop, Brent Stiefel, and Amanda Verhagen. It initially premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year.
