“You see beyond the world we live in… There is a price to be paid for that.” The Academy has revealed their 2024 Best Picture Nominee video just before the Oscar ceremony this weekend. This wonderful 2-min montage brings together all 10 of the nominees – from Barbie to Maestro to Oppenheimer to Poor Things – to reminds us why we love movies so much. And highlight each of the nominees and their powerful themes and the stories they’re telling. The Academy also created one of these montages last year – though it played during the ceremony it was only during a break. This video was edited by a friend of the site, best known as “Sleepy Skunk“, who has been creating movie trailer mashups and retrospectives for years (view them all there). This one is just as beautiful as always. His final shot ending with the fire from Oppenheimer is pretty much a nod that it’s going to win a bunch of Oscars in a few days. At least that’s what everyone is predicting.
Thanks to The Academy for posting this showcase video on their YouTube for everyone to enjoy (in 1080p). Keep on releasing nice montages like this. All of the Best Picture nominees: American Fiction (directed by Cord Jefferson), Anatomy of a Fall (directed by Justine Triet), Barbie (directed by Greta Gerwig), The Holdovers (directed by Alexander Payne), Killers of the Flower Moon (directed by the Martin Scorsese), Maestro (directed by Bradley Cooper), Oppenheimer (directed by Christopher Nolan), Past Lives (directed by Celine Song), Poor Things (directed by Yorgos Lanthimos), The Zone of Interest (directed by Jonathan Glazer). The list of nominees for all categories is right here. This ravishing cinema montage will also be played at the ceremony; not sure if it will make it on TV during the live event (it played during commercials last year). What an exciting set of films from 2023. Which of these are your top picks?
