“At ILM, we look for work that scares us. We look for work that we haven’t done before. It is a challenge to constantly pull that off – but it’s also what drives us.” Lucasfilm has debuted a wonderful new video titled “Challenging The Impossible“, a 3-min featurette looking at all the work that goes in behind-the-scenes to make all of their movies, series, games, and more. “At Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, we challenge the impossible every day.” They highlight these three companies, and the many people involved in designing, creating, crafting, and completing the ideas that the visionaries dream up. “What’s it like to challenge the impossible every day? It’s thrilling.” This is a nice tribute to the magic of storytellers and craftspeople, always inspiring to see. There’s a series of 3 videos from Lucasfilm which first debuted a few years ago – they’ve been updated and re-released with new footage. After “Challenging The Impossible”, there’s “Story Drives Everything” and “Celebrating Empowerment and Hope” also embedded below. Enjoy.
Thanks to YouTube for the tip on these videos. For more of their videos, follow @Lucasfilm. “An overview of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), and Skywalker Sound. The video includes lots of little behind-the-scenes clips from the most recent Star Wars films, shows, and video games.” These videos were originally debuted on YouTube back in 2018, and have been updated (and re-released) for 2024. On the history of George Lucas’ iconic movie studio: “Lucasfilm was born out of necessity. Following the release of his debut feature, THX 1138 (1971), filmmaker George Lucas was eager for creative independence. His film was visionary, but limited box office exposure had left American Zoetrope, its production company, with an uncertain future. To support his next projects, Lucas would start his own company away from Hollywood in Northern California.” After making Lucas’ next film, American Graffiti (1973), the rest is history!
