The life of Lala Kent became a little quieter this week. The famous reality star and entrepreneur shocked her followers with the announcement of her forced separation from her beloved dog Lilly. In an intimate and emotional post, Kent mourned, called the day ‘devastating’, and spoke about a loneliness that was both enormous and tiny. She didn’t lose just a pet but a soulmate.
‘Today is a very sad day,’ Kent said in her post. ‘I had to face the fact that Lilly was going to die. I really don’t know where to start.’ Afterwards came a very emotional and sincere note filled with thankfulness to an animal who only gave the kind of love that is very hard to find. Kent realized Lilly was the anchor, the calming presence in the whirlwind of her life during trials and transformations. The pooch was with Kent and supported her in the darkest moments of her life. Kent referred to Lilly as ‘a loyal presence when I couldn’t get out of bed.’ She was a quiet supporter during the long journey to sobriety and Kent had her as witness when she took up motherhood.
The post depicted a bond that was beyond the normal owner-pet attachment. Kent referred to Lilly as her ‘soulmate,’ a term that carries a lot of meaning and is a heavy burden that she did not use lightly. The time went by so fast for her that she wrote, ‘I feel like I blinked and my time was up with her.’ In a harrowing expression of her pain, she said, ‘Today she takes a piece of my heart with her.’
Perhaps the most powerful part of the tribute was Kent’s confession of Lilly’s part in her achieving sobriety. Seven years of sobriety is a tremendous accomplishment, and Kent was very open about her furry friend’s support being a major factor in that success. ‘Without you I would not be celebrating 7 years of sobriety,’ she wrote, linking her dog’s unchanging presence to her own strength and healing. She concluded her message by wishing her ‘sweet girl’ to ‘Rest in puppy paradise,’ followed by a paw print and heart emoji.
The community’s response was quick and very compassionate. Other celebrities and many followers offered their condolences, with quite a few recognizing Lilly from her appearances on Vanderpump Rules and Kent’s social media over the years. The comments section became a space for people to collectively grieve and empathize when it comes to this kind of loss.
One user expressed what surely was in many minds: ‘They become family and it hurts so badly.’ This concise comment perfectly captured the situation, pointing to the great sorrow that the loss of a pet entails. Another comment provided a spiritual explanation: ‘I think of dogs as angels we are so lucky to have and when they go it’s because they are needed in heaven.’ This viewpoint of a temporary parting seems to have brought a little relief amid the sorrow.
People were impressed by the mature, very specific milestones that Kent indicated. A follower wrote, ‘Losing an animal companion is one of the hardest things—their love is really unmatched.’ This admitting of a pet’s extraordinary, non-judgmental love was very penetrating and showed why their absence is felt so painfully. Another one concentrated on the person’s bravery in deciding to euthanize the animal, saying, ‘It’s the toughest thing to do, but you did what was best for your fur baby,’ recognizing the painful responsibility that comes with such deep love.
Many shared the grief and the community felt it everywhere. ‘I am so deeply sorry for your loss,’ was one comment, while another one put it this way, ‘The worst feeling EVER.’ The unanimity of support showed the community was united in the belief that this was not an insignificant matter. It was the end of an important chapter in Lala Kent’s life, a chapter characterized by fidelity, healing, and love without conditions.

Lala Kent’s tribute to Lilly was not only an announcement of a pet’s death. It was a wild and honest look at the beings that sometimes we don’t realize they help us until they are gone. It was a reminder that family is not always a matter of blood but that it depends on who is there for you, or in this instance, who is there for you lying next to you when you can’t stand on your own. Kent’s journey continues but now a part of her heart that is in the shape of Lilly will always be in puppy paradise, a sentiment she often shares about her daughter Ocean.
