Jack Norman in ‘The Boy from Below’ Talks to iHorror!

iHorror had an opportunity to catch up with actor Jack Norman from the newly released The Boy from Below.
Being a killer on screen is old hat for Norman who has previously portrayed Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees in two fan films. But the killer in The Boy from Below is a role that he holds near and dear to his heart. He first brought the character to life with director/writer Tory Jones in 2017’s The Wicked One. Now nearly ten years later Norman reprises the role in a bigger, bloodier movie!
In this interview iHorror explores Norman’s set experience, his influences in the genre, and future projects.

iHorror: Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you found out the long awaited The Boy from Below was finally happening? What was your reaction?

Jack Norman: Yes, I remember Tory asked me if I was free to talk. He called and pitched me the idea, and I said I’d be down. However, I don’t want it to be like the last one. I don’t like movies where there’s 3 or 4 killers or anything like that. We spoke and he said: no, this time we have a budget, and we got this and that. I was excited and we began the process of the characters’ look and how he acts, walks, and such. It pretty much all started rolling that day.

iHorror: What are some of the differences you encountered on set while filming The Wicked One (2017) and the recently released The Boy from Below (2026)?

Jack Norman: Well this time we had lots of crew members, and way more sets and set design. Everything was bigger and better this time, including the costume. Also, on the original it was my first time doing any acting or masked killer stuff really on film, ya know? So there was definitely the question if I would be good or not, so I was nervous on that set. But on this one I wasn’t at all. And I never ever felt like I wasn’t gonna do it right or questioned myself after day one. People were always nice to me or telling me that it looked incredible. I felt loved by the end of the first film, but on this set I felt loved the whole time.

iHorror: How did you feel when you found out the mask of your character would be removed for some of your scenes?

Jack Norman: Tory and I talked about this before we ever filmed anything, and I said I’m perfectly fine with it. I even thought it would be good for certain scenes. We also spoke about me looking better now with the longer hair than I did when they removed the mask in the original and I had short hair. Which, by the way, I hated those scenes in the original. I think the new scenes work well in the film. It lets you see that he’s the younger boy from before with his face paint which kind of got wiped from the mask and sweat, and also with the long hair. It also made sense to do it since the younger version wasn’t always masked in the beginning.

iHorror: Did you work with Jace Carson, the actor who played the younger version of The Boy, behind the scenes to make sure your characters were cohesive?

Jack Norman: Negative. I never met him until the premiere. Tory called or texted me a few times on set when they were filming and just said “You better bring your “A” game, Chase did great.” I remember asking what he did before I filmed, and originally I was just a hair nervous because I hadn’t acted in a couple years. But once I got to set that was gone. We added some short phrases or lines to kinda match his talking lines with Jace. But only a few, and most didn’t make the film. I think only two did, but I think we only did three. We did the “Hold Still”  and my line at the end of the film matching Jace when he leaves.  And we did one where I mocked Spooky’s character and I said “Grammy Grammy” to Grams dead body.

iHorror: Do you have a favorite masked killer from previous horror films?

Jack Norman: Since 1996 it’s always been Michael Myers. My mom rented Halloween 6 that year and I fell in love lol I even met my kids’ mother from our mutual love of Halloween. We even named our daughter Laurie. Before Michael it was Jason.

iHorror: Were you influenced by other actors who portrayed masked killers in horror movies throughout history while forming the character of The Boy?

Jack Norman: To name a few Richard Brooker (Friday the 13th part 3). I extensively studied his movements in that film, and he remains my favorite Jason actor. Tyler Mane (Halloween 2007) is another. Tyler is even taller than me, so he quickly became my idol when it came to his work. I also got to be a crew member on a couple of his films, including one film where I play Sasquatch and he plays another character. Another would be Kane Hodder. I love his movements, an emotion you can see in both his Jason and in the Victor Crowley films. And of course James Jude Courtney, who was the Myers in Halloween Kills which I worked as a production assistant on. His movements and everything was incredible.

iHorror: Do you feel Tory Jones captured the 1990’s era?

Jack Norman: I think he did, especially with the Vortex Video Rental store, as well as other tones in the film. I think the film shouldn’t have had a date attached to it, because people pick it apart saying this or that wasn’t a thing in that particular year. If I ever write a period price I’ll never add a specific year.

iHorror: You worked with some veteran cult classic actors from the horror field, including Dee Wallace and Felissa Rose. What was this experience like?

Jack Norman: It was incredible! The first one I met was Felissa. Anyone who has been around her knows that she’s a bundle of joy and full of experience. Our scene involved a fake bottle and practical FX.  It was an absolute blast in that scene! I was fortunate to be around all of the legendary actors we had on set. It was especially amazing to say I share a credit with Tommy Lee Wallace since he was one of the many names who helped create Halloween, and even the original look of the Michael Myers mask.

Felissa Rose as Julia in The Boy from Below (2026)

iHorror: Dee Wallace’s death scene was so heartbreaking, but also a necessary piece in the film. What was filming this scene like?

Jack Norman: This scene was long, and had a lot to it. By the end it was just me, a stunt FX dummy and the crew. She was very intense in her scenes. She has a way to get ready for screaming and yelling and to get in the right mood and emotion. I remember the other actors like Spooky being a tad emotional when it came to this scene, and rightfully so. However, I had to be at the opposite end of the spectrum for my character.

Dee Wallace as Sybil Curtis in The Boy from Below (2026)

iHorror: Is there a possibility for a sequel?

Jack Norman: I think there’s always a possibility, and we talked about it on set. I think that really depends on if the film does well when it comes to VOD and the eventual streaming release.

iHorror: Are you currently working on any projects?

Jack Norman: The last project I worked on was Roman Jossart’s Placid Park. I mostly just provided my house for certain scenes in the film. However, I have three scripts of my own that I’d like to eventually bring to life.

1. A Sci fi/Horror like the Terminator
2. A Horror/Thriller, like a Tarantino type film.
3. Is a Thriller/Action Love story. In the sense of the film Drive (2011).
On top of that, Roman and I have plans for the future.

iHorror: Where can we follow you to keep up to date about future projects?

Jack Norman: My Instagram is the best way to keep up with me @jack_axe_norman

iHorror thanks Jack Norman for taking the time out of his filmmaking schedule to talk about this new slasher movie, now available on AmazonPrime, AppleTV, Fandango, GooglePlay, and YouTube.
