The 20th anniversary return of Pan’s Labyrinth took in more than $2 million in theaters, and the 4K restoration behind it arrives on digital November 10.
Cineverse struck the restoration from the original 35mm elements with Guillermo del Toro overseeing it, and it is the same version that played the October engagement with Fathom Entertainment in 4K, 3D and HDR.
The Discs Come in Three Waves
Physical lands December 1 with a 4K and Blu-ray Collector’s Edition SteelBook and a Blu-ray Collector’s Edition. Digital rental opens December 8. A third disc, a 4K and Blu-ray Collector’s Edition, was added for December 29, which Cineverse put down to preorder demand.
That demand is the number the company is leading with: the physical preorder is the biggest home entertainment preorder launch in Cineverse history, per the company. “While industry trends in home entertainment are down, the titles we have chosen to invest in are trending up,” said Yolanda Macias, the company’s chief motion pictures officer.

Twenty Years and Three Oscars Later
The film won three Academy Awards from six nominations in 2007, for cinematography, art direction and makeup. The 3D that more than 1,300 artists built by hand is the novelty on this release. The 4K is the part that matters, because a scan taken off the original negative becomes the version everything after it gets struck from, and a film whose whole argument is the difference between a damp Spanish forest and a room lit by firelight has more riding on that than most.
