Mrs. Claus carries a sword. More than two dozen new images from Violent Night 2 turned up this week, and the strongest of them puts Kristen Bell beside David Harbour’s Santa with a blade in her hand while he shoulders a sledgehammer.
Tommy Wirkola returns to direct from a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, and Universal opens the sequel in US theaters on December 4. The MPA rated it R for strong, bloody violence and language, the same rating the 2022 original carried.
Santa lands on the naughty list this time and loses his magic with it. The fight comes to the Silver Bell Mall, where Jared Harris plays a gangster leaning on the merchants, and Mrs. Claus turns up to help. Joe Pantoliano, Daniela Melchior, Andrew Bachelor and Maxwell Friedman fill out the cast, Kelly McCormick and David Leitch produce through 87North, and the finished film runs 110 minutes.
Kristen Bell’s Mrs. Claus

The two-shot of them armed under the mall’s holiday lights is the best image in the set. Harbour with a weapon is what the first film already sold. Bell holding one beside him is the part that is new, and it is the most interesting frame to come out of this sequel so far.
David Harbour Is Back as Santa

Harbour is out of the red robe in several of the new shots, in an ugly Christmas sweater instead. Wirkola directed the 2022 original, which still turns up on our guide to Christmas horror movies, and he shot the sequel in Winnipeg between September 2 and October 15 of last year.

Jared Harris, who spent Chernobyl and The Terror playing men losing an argument with something much larger than they are, is the one standing between Santa and a quiet Christmas.
