Mickey 17 box office prediction is a hot topic as fans eagerly await the film’s release on March 7. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, this sci-fi thriller follows a disposable clone worker assigned to dangerous assignments. However, every time he dies, a new iteration of him emerges with retained memories. With an intriguing premise and Robert Pattinson in the lead role, audiences wonder if this movie will be a hit or if Mickey 17 will flop at the box office. Let’s take a look at the predictions.
How much is Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 predicted to make at the box office?
As per Boxoffice Pro, Joon-Ho’s Mickey 17 is speculated to make $15M – $20M domestically on its opening weekend.
If these estimates hold, this will be Bong Joon-ho’s biggest domestic debut. However, these numbers are considerably lower than other major Warner Bros. sci-fi films like Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which opened to $82.5 million and $80 million, respectively. The lower projections for Mickey 17 stem from the fact that it is an original film without an established fanbase or franchise support.
Adding to the challenge, Mickey 17 will face tough competition from Captain America: Brave New World. The movie recently debuted with a massive $88 million opening, according to Forbes.
Will Mickey 17 be a hit or a flop?
Whether Mickey 17 succeeds or fails at the box office is still up in the air.
Mickey 17 was originally slated to be released in 2024 but faced a delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Despite this setback, early reviews have been mostly positive. The film has been praised for its unique direction, storytelling, social commentary, and outstanding performances. Given the movie is Joon-Ho’s first since Oscar-winning Parasite, it remains widely anticipated and could possibly do good at the box office. However, it might also face challenges in terms of box office numbers, as it may not have the same level of international appeal as Parasite.
