Camryn Grimes’ Cassie Newman is dead. The character died in a car crash in the May 20, 2005 episode of The Young and the Restless.

Cassie Newman’s car crash is caused while she is driving intoxicated. She got intoxicated while attending a party with her friends Lily Winters, Collen Carlton, Devon Hamilton and her crush Daniel Romalotti. At the party, Romalotti got intoxicated and passed out. Cassie soon came across the unconscious Romalotti and drove him and herself back to the Newman ranch. This is despite Cassie being under the legal age of driving and lacking a license.

Unfortunately for Cassie she could not drive further and eventually crashed the car. This resulted in herself and Romalotti sustaining injuries. However, Cassie’s were more severe and she was left in a very critical condition. Cassie and Daniel were then found and rushed to the hospital. However, the two forgot the cause of their crash. This led to people automatically assuming Daniel to be responsible. Cassie then spent her final breath trying to clear Daniel of the blame. She eventually succumbed to her injuries and died in the presence of her mother Sharon Collins and stepfather Nicholas Newman.

Camryn Grimes had left the show as Cassie Newman in a main character capacity following the character’s death in 2005. However, she returned between 2005 and 2024 in a guest capacity — appearing as a hallucination, in dreams or in flashbacks.

However, from 2014, Grimes began playing another character in the show Mariah Copeland. Copeland was eventually revealed to be the twin sister of Cassie Newman and Sharon Collins’ daughter.
