Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has offered up some updates on the production status of the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as well as what makes a movie like Thunderbolts* so Marvel.
What did Kevin Feige say about The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
Speaking during a recent virtual appearance at the opening of the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige revealed that the upcoming Fantastic Four movie was ready to wrap filming and that he’s “excited” about the group’s future in the MCU.
“Finally, [we’re] bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU,” said Feige. “They wrap next week, the movie comes out next summer, and then all those characters go right into the next Avengers movies, so I’m very excited for the future of the Fantastic Four.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release on July 25, 2025, and will be directed by Matt Shakman, who previously helmed all nine episodes of the WandaVision miniseries. The MCU reboot stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/ Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Additional cast members include Natasha Lyone (Poker Face), Julia Garner (Ozark) as a “Shalla-Bal version” of the Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson (Harry Potter) as Galactus, along with John Malkovich (Places in the Heart), Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), and Natasha Lyonne (The Russian Doll) in undisclosed roles.
Feige thinks Thunderbolts* is a quintessential Marvel project
Outside of The Fantastic Four, Feige also briefly touched on the upcoming Thunderbolts*, set to release in May 2025. To Feige, a movie like Thunderbolts* is “what Marvel is all about,” and about bringing together a bunch of heroes and characters into one big project.
“It’s taking characters from all different types of places and franchises and putting them together,” Feige said. “That’s what the Avengers is, that’s what Guardians of the Galaxy is.”
