Liam Gallagher bluntly responds to Oasis Glastonbury 2027 headline rumours

Playing Glastonbury – a prospect Liam Gallagher once compared to performing to “a load of jamboree teachers” – doesn’t seem to be on the cards for Oasis next year.

Over the weekend, it emerged that the Britpop legends were the bookies favourites to headline the Worthy Farm festival at 4/1, and Liam has been on a tear up on Twitter/X ever since, taking aim at the “croc wearing flag waving shit c*nts” convinced they’re on the bill next year, bluntly saying: “It’s not happening.”

Replying to a fan who asked him what he dreamed about, he doubled down, saying: “I had a dream we was playing Glastonbury and the croc brigade stormed the stage and started whipping me to death with their flags took me ages to get settled”.

As well as the footwear issue, the flags the festival is famous for seemed to be of great concern, and Liam went on to ask a fan: “Do they encourage CROCS n FLAGWAVING if so I’m afraid it’s NO from ME.”

This morning (Monday August 24), he followed up with another post, saying: “Ffs RKID announce the tour we’re all losing our minds,” to which Bonehead replied: “What tour???”

As well as the now quashed Glasto rumours, there’s also talk of an UK and European tour for Oasis next year, which could include an impressive 12-night homecoming residency in Manchester and a return to Knebworth.

“A number of sources” close to the club reportedly shared that 12 shows planned for the stadium. Since it reopened for gigs earlier this summer, the Etihad has welcomed huge live shows from The Weeknd and Take That.

If residency shows are confirmed, tickets are likely to come on sale this summer. It also seems likely that dates would take place in May and June, as Man City’s fixture list for 2026/2027 means that their last home game is on Saturday May 23.

The reports of a residency in their hometown arose in the Manchester Evening News, claiming that the band were booking out the Etihad Stadium – home of Liam and Noel Gallagher’s beloved Manchester City FC.

While nothing has been officially confirmed regarding more tour dates, Oasis did celebrate one year since the ‘Live ‘25’ tour kicked off earlier this month by dropping the first trailer for their “landmark” new Steven Knight-directed documentary.

Don’t Look Back In Anger will be released in cinemas and on IMAX on September 11, before becoming available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu around the world at a later date in 2026. The latest clip shows Liam and Noel backstage, promising that the reunion shows were “going to be chaos.”

Since the ‘Live ‘25’ shows wrapped up in November, Oasis have been steadily teasing more live dates on the way. Back in December, for example, Liam appeared to confirm that the band would not be touring again until 2027 at the earliest, sharing on X: “We’re not doing anything in 2026 sorry”.

As for Glastonbury, earlier this month, organiser Emily Eavis ruled out another heavily rumoured headliner in Madonna, who had been strongly rumoured to be performing after the release of her new album ‘Confessions II‘.

Early bookies’ favourites for the Pyramid Stage next summer included the likes of Sam Fender, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Little Simz. Other rumoured names for topping the bill include Harry Styles, Radiohead, Fontaines D.C., Muse and The Rolling Stones.

More recent speculation has centred on The Stones, with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards both suggesting that the band could return to touring in 2027. They headlined Glastonbury for the only time in 2013.

Oasis first headlined Glastonbury in 1995 – just one year after their debut appearance at Worthy Farm. They returned to headline the festival in 2004, but the performance received lacklustre reviews from fans and critics alike.

In a press conference from 2008, Noel commented on Oasis’ history at the festival saying: “We said the last time we done Glastonbury, we’ve never really pulled it off at Glastonbury… I don’t think.”

He continued: “I think the last time [2004], we had scrapped an album that was supposed to come out that week of that festival so it was a bit of a damp squib… I’ve always said about Glastonbury, it’s great to be at but it’s not great for people like us to play at.

Liam later said playing that year was “horrible” after struggling with his in-ear monitors: “I didn’t like it. I mean I enjoyed myself after it because you soon put it to bed, you get off your head and all that and I enjoyed the vibe. But the gig, nah, wasn’t for me.”

Both Liam and Noel have since performed at Glastonbury as solo artists, with the former’s previous band Beady Eye also having featured on the bill. Noel last appeared with the High Flying Birds in 2022.
