“There’s nothing that makes me feel better than watching ya’ll play ball.” “But we’re awful.” Well Go has revealed the official trailer for a kids baseball movie called You Gotta Believe, a cheesy uplifting tale of a true story of a Little League team in 2002. This one is set to hit theaters in late August in just a few months – right around when school starts back up again. Based on the inspiring true story: after dedicating the season to a teammate’s ailing father, a group of underdogs from Fort Worth, Texas, takes its Cinderella run all the way to a record-breaking showdown in the 2002 Little League World Series. This baseball movie “tells the heartwarming story of a group of young boys who, after a teammate’s father is diagnosed with cancer, really banded together and learned to play the game they loved for a cause much greater than themselves.” From Texas filmmaker Ty Roberts, the film stars Luke Wilson, Greg Kinnear, Sarah Gadon, Lew Temple, Michael Cash, Etienne Kellici, & Molly Parker. And a bunch of Little Leaguers, too. As schmaltzy as some of the lines in this trailer are, this still looks like it might end up a satisfying watch anyway. Batter up!
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Ty Roberts’ film You Gotta Believe, direct from YouTube:
You Gotta Believe is based on the inspiring true story of one team’s transformational journey from district underdog to taking its place in the Little League record books – the story of Bobby Ratliff. After dedicating the season to a teammate’s ailing father, a group of underestimated youth baseball players on the team Westside All-Stars from Fort Worth, Texas, takes their Cinderella run all the way to the 2002 Little League World Series — culminating in a record-breaking showdown that became an instant ESPN classic. You Gotta Believe is both written and directed by American indie producer / filmmaker Ty Roberts, director of the films This Side of the Dirt, The Iron Orchard, and 12 Mighty Orphans previously. Produced by Santa Rita Film Co. led by producer Houston Hill; along with Matt Harvey, Pasha Patriki, and Byron Campbell. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Well Go USA will release You Gotta Believe in US theaters nationwide starting on August 30th, 2024 coming soon this year. Look any good?
