Who Is Romain Gavras? – Meet Dua Lipa’s Boyfriend

In March 2023, Dua Lipa was seen with French director Romain Gavras, the Daily Mail reported at the time, and they were even seen holding hands after leaving the Saint Laurent Paris Fashion Week show. A pic showed Gavras following the pop star as she exited in one of the designer’s ensembles.

A few days earlier, they were spotted leaving a BAFTA’s afterparty together. A source told The Sun that they have been “quietly getting to know each other for months.”

“They have been enjoying spending time together,” the source continued. “Dua knows how important it is to find someone who understands her industry. She feels Romain totally gets it. They’re both really creative people.”

And then in May 2023, they went red carpet official at the Cannes Film Festival, making their relationship public.

Dua Lipa was last romantically linked to model Anwar Hadid, the younger brother of Gigi and Bella Hadid, who are close friends with the singer. They reportedly split in late 2021, and since then 27-year-old singer has been linked to musician Jack Harlow and TV host Trevor Noah.

Who is Romain Gravas?

Forty-two-year-old Gravas was born in Paris and the Onassis Foundation states that he’s the son of Greek-French film director Costa Gavras, so directing runs in the family. His most recent big work was Netflix’s Athena in 2022, but he is also known for directing several popular music videos, including the video for M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls,” winner of a 2012 MTV Video Music Award. In 2017, he was nominated Best Music Video for Jamie XX’s “Gosh (Version 2)” at the award show again. He was additionally nominated for a Grammy Award in 2013, for directing Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean’s “No Church in the Wild.”

Gavras has headed a number of ad campaigns, too, including Louis Vuitton’s “Coeur Battant,” Dior’s “J’adore: The New Absolu,” and Powerade’s “The Corner,” per his IMDb page.

Who else has Romain Gavras been linked to romantically?

Gavras dated singer British Ora for six months in March 2021, but the Daily Mail reported they split due to “work commitments.”

“Rita and Romain split up months ago because of difficulties with their respective work commitments,” a spokesperson said. “They remain close friends.”

Rita Ora is now married to director Taika Waititi.

How did the couple meet?

So far, the rumored pair haven’t said anything publicly about their connection or how they met. They were all smiles together at Cannes in May 2023, making their relationship debut at a screening of Omar La Fraise (The King Of Algiers).

Lipa celebrated Gavras’ 42nd birthday on July 4, 2023 with an Instagram tribute. “joyeux anniversaireeeee bébé 💞,” she wrote in French. Her message translates to: “happy birthday baby.” She shared a rare personal photo of them together for the occasion.

On Friday, July 21, the pop star and Gavras were seen out in London on the same night her film Barbie debuted, and they appeared to be having a blast. Dua Lipa was photographed laughing as she got into the back of her car with her boyfriend.

She was wearing a white blouse and a pair of straight-legged jeans with black shoes, black leather belt, and a matching handbag. Gavras was in a white t-shirt, hiding his face from cameras with his jacket. The couple were heading to the Chiltern Firehouse for their night out.
