Those hunting for the Elemental non-binary character name have come to the right place. Though subtle in the movie itself, there is a character that uses They/Them pronouns who has been confirmed as non-binary. Here is the need-to-know info about Pixar’s non-binary character.
Who is the Elemental non-binary character?
The name of the non-binary character in Elemental is Lake Ripple.
In the books accompanying the movie, it’s explained that Lake Ripple is non-binary and uses They/Them pronouns.
Lake Ripple is the first Pixar movie character to be labeled as non-binary. In the movie, they are accompanied by their long-term girlfriend.
Lake Ripple is confirmed to be voiced by Ava Hauser, who revealed the information with a post on their Twitter account:
Actor Ava Hauser is also known for playing Hoku in Cyclone, Kid in Life With LEO(h), Aria in Spooky Month, Boybrush in Return to Monkey Island, and Cleo in Cleo – A Pirate’s Tale. (via IMDB)
While Lake Ripple is far from a main character, they still play a key role when Wade introduces Ember to the Ripple family.
In recent years, Disney and Pixar have increased (albeit slowly) the number of onscreen LGBTQIA+ appearances. With Elemental, a movie aimed primarily at children, the introduction of a non-binary character will hopefully resonate with youths who were waiting for someone more like them. Pixar often themes its content around acceptance and being true to yourself, so it’s fitting that a non-binary character now has the spotlight.
The official synopsis for Elemental reads:
In a city where fire, water, land, an air residents live together, a fiery young woman and a go-with-the-flow guy are about to discover something elemental: How much they actually have in common.
