Penélope Cruz & Glenn Close’s La Bola Negra Movie With Big Oscar Buzz Finally Gets a Trailer

Netflix has released the official teaser trailer and release date for La Bola Negra, starring Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. The announcement comes three months after its world premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

La Bola Negra arrives in theaters across the U.S. on October 16, 2026. The movie will then make its streaming debut on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada on December 2, 2026. Fans can soon enjoy the movie, which has already received rave critical reviews and coveted accolades.

La Bola Negra premiered at its world premiere at the Cannes on May 21, where it received a nomination for the Palme d’Or. Additionally, Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo won the Best Director award for the film.

What’s happening in La Bola Negra’s trailer?

Directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, aka “Los Javis,” La Bola Negra is a drama film inspired by Federico García Lorca’s unfinished work of the same name and by Conejero’s play La piedra oscura.

La Bola Negra tells the story of three gay men across generations, whose lives are intertwined through love, desire, and pain. One story takes place during the Spanish Civil War in 1932 and 1937, while another storyline happens in 2017.

The teaser introduces the three main characters, played by Spanish actors Milo Quifes, Guitarricadelafuente, and Carlos González. The short clip shows a montage of dramatic moments from the movie, offering glimpses into the three men’s heartfelt story of war, passion, hope, and more.

The ensemble cast of La Bola Negra also includes Miguel Bernardeau, Lola Dueñas, Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, Antonio de la Torre, and more.
