Dolly Parton suffered a heartbreaking loss in March 2025 when her husband of 58 years passed away. The beloved singer has been in declining health ever since, forcing her to cancel multiple appearances. Now, she’s reportedly feeling lonely and trapped in ‘prison’ amid her ongoing health struggles. Keep reading to find out the latest news.
Dolly Parton Lonely, Trapped In ‘Prison’ Amid Health Woes
Dolly Parton’s late husband was ill for several years before he passed away. The singer stopped touring to stay home and be his caretaker. She needed a distraction after his death and announced a Las Vegas residency, her first tour in years. But then the “I Will Always Love You” singer suffered health setbacks of her own and ultimately had to cancel the concerts.

Her public appearances are few and far between these days. Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance in public in late June at the opening of a Tennessee rest stop bearing her name. However, her other appearances are generally virtual, including her sweet message to Taylor Swift on her wedding day.
The iconic performer has a beautiful estate in Brentwood, Tennessee, but an insider said it feels more like a “prison” these days. Dolly Parton has been advised to stay home until her health improves.
“It was a huge deal for Dolly to go out and greet fans [at the grand opening], but she has been told in no uncertain terms that these outings are generally not a good idea until she’s back at 100 percent,” a source told RadarOnline.

Dolly Parton is reportedly feeling cooped up and “vulnerable” while stuck at home. “For Dolly it’s akin to a prison sentence. She’s feeling very trapped and desperate to get out and about, visit friends and enjoy a vacation outside of the property,” the source said.
It doesn’t help that there are reminders of her late husband in the sprawling mansion.
Could She Make Special Appearance For 81st Birthday?
“It’s all too much and not a happy time for Dolly right now,” the insider said. But that could change in a few months. Dolly Parton has been working for years to bring her unique life story to the stage.
Dolly: A True Original Musical is finally ready for the Great White Way after a nationwide casting call. The musical tells the story of Dolly Parton’s humble upbringing to her worldwide fame. The Broadway show features some of her biggest hits and new music she wrote just for the show.
Previews begin in New York City in December but the official premiere is on a very special day. Dolly: A True Original Musical premieres on Broadway on January 19, 2027, which is the singer’s 81st birthday. She skipped out on a celebration at the Grand Ole Opry for her 80th, but if she’s feeling up to it, there’s no way she’ll miss the debut of the Broadway musical she’s been working on for years. Stay tuned for updates on her health.
