Eight years ago, Dean Devlin worked with David Tennant on the thriller Bad Samaritan. Now, he’s cast his son, Ty Tennant, on The Librarians: The Next Chapter, and the creator raved about his performance when he discussed the second season with TV Insider ahead of the premiere.
“He’s amazing in the show,” Devlin told us — and our exclusive first-look photo and clip, which you can check out below, show just that as Ty Tennant takes on the role of Peter Pan. There is, of course, a Librarians twist to it.
In the Sunday, August 9, episode, the team encounters this sinister new incarnation of Peter Pan while investigating missing bankers in London. He’s recruiting a new generation of Lost Boys, and when Guardian Charlie (Jessica Green) is taken, it’s up to Librarians Lysa (Olivia Morris), Vikram (Callum McGowan), and Connor (Bluey Robinson) to head into the twisted version of Neverland to save her — disguised as characters from Pan’s world. Devlin thinks that fans are going to enjoy the guest stars of The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 2 (which also include original series stars Christian Kane and Lindy Booth reprising their roles as Jacob and Cassandra). “TNT really opened up the ability to go after some really interesting actors, and so we were super grateful about that,” he explained. “Season 2 is a big step up from Season 1.”
While at the time TV Insider spoke with Devlin, he was vague about Ty Tennant’s role, he did note that he saw the same thing in him that he’d seen in his father, David, back while filming Bad Samaritan.

“David Tennant was such an amazing actor, and one of the things that he did better than anyone I’ve ever seen is turn the switch on and then turn the switch off. And what I mean by that is we’d be getting ready to do a shot, and he’s so friendly, and he’s so kind, and he’s so generous to everyone, and I would say action, and he was playing a psychotic killer,” Devlin shared. “As soon as I said action, his eyes would go dark, and he’d get these kind of dead shark-like eyes, and I could see out of my peripheral vision the entire crew tensing up. You could see everyone getting like nervous around him, and he would do these thrilling performances, and I would say, ‘Cut!’ And boom, he hit the switch turn and goes, ‘Was that alright?’ And he’s back to the most friendly, sweetest person on earth.”
He continued, “His son has similar things in that it goes from very dark and dramatic to very comic, and his ability to do both within a single scene is a rare talent with an actor, and he’s really gifted. A lot of people may have seen him in the House of the Dragon, but he plays a very, very different character in this one.”
